Freddie McGregor cleared to fly in for MoBay concert against crime

With criminals running amok in sections of Montego Bay and the wider parish of St James, doctors in the United States have given veteran reggae singer, Freddie McGregor, the greenlight to fly out of Miami to perform at the second staging of "Entertainers against Crime and Violence" at the Dump-up Beach in Montego Bay on Sunday evening.

Freddie was reportedly being treated in the US for complications arising from an accident he had last year.

Up to earlier this week, the "Captain of the Big Ship" was uncertain to make his appearance on the event which is to feature a galaxy of popular Reggae and Dancehall performers.

The long line-up, in addition to Freddie, also features veteran entertainer Ernie Smith, George Nooks, Pinchers, Singing Melody, Chuck Fenda, Lymie Murray, Nateesha Stream, Paul Elliott, Spanner Banner, Pam Hall, Hezron, Anthony Cruz, Nature Ellis, Persons of Interest Band, Live Wyya, Bung Guh Lhung the band, Zamunda, Mackie Conscious, Irie Connection, Rankin Pumpkin, Vision, Roland Burrell, Jah Ranks, Katalys Crew, Tension Invasion, Claudius England, Satta Ranks, Mikey Rankin and many others.

Montego Bay is slated for a musical flood with the over 60 local entertainers drawn from the gospel and secular genres, coming together in one voice to make a powerful statement against crime and all forms of violence.

With over 300 murders so far in St James since the start of the year, the entertainers are coming together to play their part in contributing to curbing crime through positive musical messages. They have pledged to keep their lyrical contents positive, uplifting and motivating.

This year's show is in collaboration with the USAID-funded "Fi Wi Jamaica" project being executed by the University of Technology (UTech), Jamaica, under the leadership of Professor Rosalea Hamilton.

A highlight of the event will be the announcement of the top three winners of the "Fi Wi Jamaica" songwriting competition during the show.
